NSW Government advice in response to COVID-19 has resulted in travel and work restrictions in some regions. This has impacted existing audit arrangements where licensed facilities cannot operate, or auditors are not permitted to travel.

Effective immediately, licensees will receive remote audits from NSW Food Authority staff or approved Third Party Auditors. This will apply in the areas designated as ‘lock down’ areas and also regional locations where travel restrictions impact auditor movements.

A remote audit is a food safety audit that is conducted outside of the food handling area, and in some circumstances remotely from the premises being audited.

The NSW Food Authority will continue to monitor facilities through the collection and review of processing information obtained and submitted by licensed processing facilities.

This change to the audit program will remain in place until further advice is provided by the NSW Food Authority.

All licensees are reminded to ensure they continue to comply with their existing food safety programs and management systems.

The NSW Government continues to work with national and international agencies to provide the most up to date information as this issue is rapidly evolving and recommends that people follow NSW Health guidelines as this issue evolves - www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19.
