NSW plant product businesses are those that handle fresh cut fruit, fresh cut vegetables, vegetables in oil, unpasteurised juice or seed sprouts. It does not apply to the handling of food on retail premises.
The sector includes (but is not limited to) businesses that:
- process fruit or vegetables to produce fresh cut ready-to-eat (RTE) products
- package fresh cut fruit and vegetables
- produce chopped/shredded vegetables for wholesale to businesses making salads
- produce and package bagged chopped/shredded vegetables
- grow and process seed sprouts
- extract and/or package juice from fruit or vegetables without pasteurising it
- preserve vegetables or fruit in oil
- store plant products
- transport plant products.

Export
The Australian Department of Agriculture and Water Resources provides export controls and assistance regarding exporting goods from Australia.
Businesses that wish to export their plants and plant products overseas can find information to meet their responsibilities from the Australian Department of Agriculture.
Consultation
The NSW Food Authority consults directly with each licence holder in the plant products industry.
